Types Of Jobs In Metal Fabrication

Nowadays, metal fabrication involves the construction of metal structures and manual processes by blueprint designs. Sometimes you can use lasers and sensors to do some actions such as drawing, welding, bolting, grinding, forging and many activities.

It remains an essential element of the manufacturing industries. It is also crucial to developing a variety of infrastructure in some of the most important aspects such as transportation, buildings, and machinery.

There are many jobs that metal fabricators can. Below are some of the positions.

Metal fabrication machine operator

A metal fabrication machine operator can set up and operate metal fabricating machines such as rolls, shears, and saws to cut, bend and straighten sheets according to blueprints and specifications. They will select, position and secure dies, blades, and fixtures onto machines using rule, square and other hand-tools.

Also, these operators will adjust controls and regulate machining factors such as pressure, adjustment rolls and blade angles.

Finally, they need to start machines and observe machine operation to reposition workpiece, change dies or adjust machine settings.

Welder and metal fabrication

Here, you need to do top quality welding and provide high quality welded parts. You will employ project-based strategies and welding skills effectively in the production fabrication to produce a good finish. You will have to take product design to finished goods in a timely and cost-effective way to meet your welding and metal fabrication needs.

Metal fabrication grinding

For this position, you have to involve a metal grinding shop or a metal fabrication to complete the project. You require better control of operations and the overall quality of parts. You will use surface finish equipment for high-quality finishes and tight tolerance thickness. You will handle steel and other materials with hardness levels of up to Rockwell 60.

Metal fabrication technician

In this job post, you will have the opportunity to run CNC operated lasers, press brakes and do welding. You can read prints, communicate with the team and solve problems using effective workflow skills.

You will also inspect the quality of the finishes and use the measuring equipment such as the calipers and tape measure effectively.

You should have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handling a variety of materials.

Metal fabrication supervising

This job position requires you to supervise fabrication yard activities such as welding and lifting and fit up. You can also look at yard installation operations such as piping installation.

Also, you’re required to coordinate the sub-contractors in all the assembly stages and ensure that they comply with safety procedures and quality standards.

Finally, metal fabrication supervising involves coordinating and interfacing between fabrication and prefabrication activities.

Check and straighten metal fabrication

These involve straightening the hot bump to form extrusions for machine shops. Also, these personnel work with both light and heavy extrusions in pre, during and post machine operations.
